Memento                        My memento was created from my childhood memories of christmas, more specifically, decorating the tree with my dad. The red felt represents the red felt skirt that goes around the bottom of the tree and the green thread comes from the color of the tree. The memento is stuffed with bells to represent the same 4 christmas songs my dad used to play over and over again as we decorated the tree every year which is also why there are 4 ex's on the front. I wanted the memento itself to be able to make music when you picked it up because the everyone decorates their tree with their family but my memory is unique because of those christmas songs.  Inspiration   The main aspect of inspiration for this project were the 4 songs which are, Jingle Bell Rock, All I Want for Christmas is You, Rockin Around the...

Map Relief In process photo Final This sculpture is a map of my home. I have moved a few times in my life but no matter where I move to, the area is always very rural and my house is always in an area that most people consider to be "the middle of no where" which is what I was trying to create in this map. I wanted the map to represent a open space with a lot of greenery as that is what almost every where I have ever lived has been like. I incorporated the two small mountains to represent the area I live in now in northern Pennsylvania and the lake to represent my old house in Delaware. I used all organic shapes because I wanted the map to be very natural because it is representing a very natural space. I chose the colors and the shapes to be similar to the ones you see on a ariel view map, elevation is usually brightly colored while depth (such as lakes) are usually darker. The engravings create shapes similar to the ones you see when looking down on...

Masking Tape Shoes  For this project I modeled my shoes after a pair of classic vans. Vans are split into panels that are obviously shown on the real shoes so I used those panels in my masking tape shoes as well and then put them all together. The masking tape shoes are the actual size of my shoes so they at 7.5 inches long. The only material used throughout the entire sculpture is masking tape down to the laces.

Balsa Wood Sculptures                                                                                                            I titled this sculpture Alternate Universe because the steps look like they are leading you up to the doorway to an another universe or dimension. I originally had an additional sculpture that also resembled an alternate universe, it unfortunately broke before I could get pictures of it but you can see in the in-process photo the beginning of that work with the paper squ...

The base of my mask is made of wire and masking tape to hold the wire in place. I then wrapped the wire in tracing paper that had been soaked in a mix of water and gel medium. Once I wrapped the wires base and let the paper dry it was much more sturdy and I spray painted it to give it a pure white color. I molded my mask into a circle shape to represent karma. Many people know the saying "what goes around comes around" which is referring to karma. The main idea behind karma is that if you do something that hurts someone else then in the future something or someone will come and hurt you as punishment for what you have done. Karma can also go to opposite route, if you do something nice for someone then someone will do something nice for you in the future as a reward for your good deed. The cycle of karma is similar to a circle because it goes around and around continuously...

"Nostalgia cannot be sustained without loss" The picture on the left shows my sister and I in front of our bunk beds in our little room on the disney cruise. The two if us are only 1 year a part and grew up doing everything together. We lived together, went to school together, played the same sports, and had almost all of the same friends. Most people know us as a package deal, up until this year. The photo on the right shows my sister and I at our last family dinner at home for the summer this passed August. Before I moved back down here to Flagler and she moved to a school in Pittsburgh. I never realized how much I would miss my sister until she left, because I thought I'd always have her around. Even during my first year at Flagler my sister moved here with me and we both went to school here. This year is not only the first year that we are not at the same school in our whole lives but it is also the first time we ar...
